Rwanda’s economic analysis of wetland site leads to internationally recognized wetland restoration

The Government of Rwanda received the internationally renowned Green Globe Award in October 2010 in recognition of its efforts to restore the Rugezi wetland. The UNDP-UNEP Poverty-Environment Initiative had been instrumental in providing the necessary economic analysis and data on which the restoration efforts were based.

PEI videoclip highlighting poverty-environment mainstreaming achievements in Rwanda

The videoclip features some of the major problems and challenges of poverty-environment related issues in Rwanda and highlights major achievements of the programme on the ground over the years. It introduces the people behind the day-today work of the Poverty-Environment Initiative in Rwanda and shows how they advocate successfully for poverty-environment mainstreaming within the government system and beyond (April 2010). Improved monitoring of poverty-environment objectives in Tanzania

In Tanzania, the Poverty-Environment Initiative has been successful in strenghtening and improving the national monitoring and reporting system on poverty-environment objectives.  As a result, a new environment statistics module was incorporated into Tanzania’s web based Social Economic Database, which helps improving quality of monitoring of the implementation of Tanzania's key planning tool, the National Strategy for Growth and Poverty Reduction (MKUKUTA) and its poverty-environment goals .
