Delegation from Mali visits Mauritius to learn from its Sustainable Development Vision

The Government of Mauritius assisted  by the Maurice Ile Durable (MID) Commission hosted a study tour for Government and PEI representatives from Mali  from the 27th to 30th January 2014. The main objective of the tour was for the Mali delegation to learn from the vision of making Mauritius a model of sustainable development and the successful practices and innovations used to achieve this goal, including good governance and budget allocation processes. At the end of the visit Mr. Souleymane Cisse, the Senior Technical Adviser of the  Minister of Environment and Sanitation of Mali  said that the exchange helps in boosting south-south experience sharing between the two countries and that the Mali delegation is inspired by how Mauritius through polices and budgets including sustainabillity objectives have been able to enhance a national green philosophy.

The Government of Mali has been implementing the PEI project since 2005 to better integrate pro-poor environmentally sustainable natural resource use into national development planning and budgeting processes. Following previous exchange visits between PEI affiliated Government officials from Burkina Faso PEI Africa has recently started to support the Government of Mauritius to mainstream poverty and environment issues into the Economic and Social Transformation Plan for Rodrigues.

Following the study tour the Government of Mauritius and the MID Commission issued a press report.
