Donors
Key multilateral and bilateral development partners are the lifeblood of the Poverty-Environment Initiative. They help meet the challenge of scaled-up support to countries to achieve their poverty-environment mainstreaming needs through the mobilization of important resources and technical capacity.
To date, the PEI has been supported by the Governments of Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Norway, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom, the United States of America and the European Union. The PEI also collaborates with a number of other bilateral and multilateral development partners such as Australian Aid, International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED), International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GIZ), International Cooperation Agency of Japan (JICA), Overseas Development Institute (ODI), Poverty Environment Partnership (PEP), World Bank and World Resources Institute (WRI).
Development partners have provided considerable backing for PEI, both in terms of advocating for PEI’s contribution to the follow up of 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and ‘Delivering as One’, supporting PEI’s joint UNDP-UN Environment management approach. They have also provided financial and technical support, for example, through the Donor Steering Group and the Technical Advisory Group, as well as through coordination and collaboration in the delivery of support packages to country programmes.
The Poverty-Environment Initiative is currently funded by the Governments of Norway, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom and the European Union.
