PEI officially launched the project “Integrated Management of Solid Waste for Sustainable and Inclusive Development” in Peru on 3 December 2013. This project will address the challenges associated with the country’s high industrialization and urbanization rates, and sustainability and management of its waste (solid, liquid and chemical waste). Informal waste collectors are a highly vulnerable population, thus a proper waste management system should help generate appropriate conditions to ensure long term sustainable development. The PEI project will support the elaboration of the national solid waste law and regulations, and the creation of local waste plans, guaranteeing the inclusion of pro poor and environmental indicators and criteria in order to ensure environmental sustainability and effective pro poor policies at national, regional and local level.
