Vulnerability to Climate Hazards Index in Dominican Republic
The links between poverty and the environment are particularly relevant in the Dominican Republic; a country vulnerable to climate change and natural disasters. According to the 2015 Global Climate Risk Index, the country ranked 8th out of the 10 nations most affected by extreme weather events in the long term, such as storms, hurricanes and droughts. The integration of social protection policies and poverty reduction policies with sustainable management of natural resources, risk prevention strategies contributes to generate more efficient and precise inter-institutional actions and allows the combat of poverty in an integrated and sustainable way.
